Created by Dead Drop Studios (a.k.a., solo developer Evan Wolbach), Outbreak: Endless Nightmares represents a massive jump in quality and content for Outbreak fans. Survival horror fans are in for a treat: Roguelike gameplay has now been added to the core Outbreak loop with startling consequences – greatly boosting replayability thanks to increasingly challenging, semi-procedurally generated “anomalies.” As you’d expect, each anomaly is filled with powerful weapons, story bits, deadly puzzles … and blood-starved fiends, of course!

“If you’re looking to worm yourself away from the world for a few days, with the lights turned down low and the curtains pulled tight, this will certainly sort you out.”
– Neil Watton (The Xbox Hub)

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares Boasts Overhauled 1st/3rd-Person Views, Faster Loading & Better Graphics Across All Supported Platforms

Updates pave the terrain for expansions Susurrations of the Nexus and
Vivification of the Apocalypse – due Winter and Spring 2022

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Aug. 3, 2021 – Outbreak: Endless Nightmares developer Dead Drop Studios has a small hit on its hands with almost three times more sales at launch than any Outbreak titles in the past! And thanks to the community, the studio was able to overhaul all major game systems immediately after launch—making Outbreak: Endless Nightmares the most polished Outbreak title yet.

For starters, the game now features revamped 1st and 3rd person views that feature free look, strafing, precision aiming, and more – a welcome addition for those used to aiming with the right analog stick. Performance optimizations were conducted across the board—drastically improving loading times on current-gen consoles (Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4) and also delivering silky-smooth frame rates on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Finally, visual and sound effects are now more punchy and realistic—fully delivering the operatic carnage the Outbreak series is known for.

Physical Release on Limited Run Games
Fans of the series can now pre-order a special physical edition containing the first five Outbreak titles from Limited Run Games! The bundle contains the PS4 versions of Outbreak: Epidemic, Outbreak: Lost Hope, Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, Outbreak: The New Nightmare, and the original Outbreak. (All games also run on PS5.) It’s the perfect opportunity to own a little piece of indie survival horror history—and hopefully lead to other console platforms in the future!

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares – 3 Months Later

  • Every single improvement was driven by community feedback.
  • First- and third-person views now feature free look, strafing, and precision aiming.
  • First-person mode now also allows players to better see both weapon and player models during gameplay.
  • Frame rates, load times, and visual fidelity improved across all supported platforms.
  • Gameplay balancing (including combat, puzzles, UI, controls and more) adjusted based on community suggestions.
  • VFX updated to deliver more realistic gore and explosions.
  • Significant improvements to co-op gameplay—including balancing, bug fixes and much, much more!

Major Content Expansions (due in 2022)

  • Susurrations of the Nexus: The ghouls of the Nexus conjure new nightmares based on prior events in the Outbreak series.
  • Vivification of the Apocalypse: The next chapter in Lydia’s story after the events of Outbreak: Endless Nightmares.

Explore a New Dimension of Fear in Outbreak: Endless Nightmares

Out now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and Steam

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – May 19, 2021 – The next game in the Outbreak series – Outbreak: Endless Nightmares – is finally here! Created by Dead Drop Studios (a.k.a., solo developer Evan Wolbach), Outbreak: Endless Nightmares is now available on Steam – along with current-gen (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) and next-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X).

In a first for the series, Outbreak: Endless Nightmares introduces mo-cap animations, improved real-time lighting and shadows (including multi-layered VFX for gore and explosions) – and high-res textures that look their best on 4K screens.

Year One DLC + Outbreak Complete Collection
It’s obvious that Outbreak: Endless Nightmares represents a massive jump in quality and content for Outbreak fans. Dead Drop Studios is also proud to announce that the game will include free post-launch DLC! More on this in the next few months…

A special bundle containing all six Outbreak titles on both current-gen and next-gen SKUs (Outbreak Complete Collection) is also becoming available today (PlayStation and Xbox only).

Death is Not the End
At the beginning of Outbreak: Endless Nightmares, you find yourself trapped within what remains of the Arzt Memorial Hospital. This becomes a central hub – a safe zone where you can organize your inventory and storage cache, level up your character(s) … or just to take a breather before venturing out into the world again.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares delivers extreme replayability by offering multiple character options – each with their own abilities, upgrade paths, and more. Explore, scavenge for supplies, uncover clues, and fight your way through the anomalies – each consisting of semi-procedurally generated instances where both the environment and the undead are out to get you.

In true roguelike fashion, things get more difficult each time you enter an anomaly. You’ll need to think carefully about which weapons, healing items, and other supplies you’ll bring along for the journey: If you’re lucky, you may find storage caches that give you access to your expanded inventory – and offer an opportunity to restock. But it’s up to you to scour the environment for supplies.

There’s more to discover in the world other than murderous zombie hordes: Find the journals scattered about to learn more about the original outbreak – and ultimately where to find refuge! But don’t think death can save you: Every time you die, you’ll awake trapped in the hub – a nexus between Life and Death.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares is a new beginning for the Outbreak series,” says Evan Wolbach, founder of Dead Drop Studios. “I put everything on the line this time around – creating a much more narrative-driven game while also placing the spotlight on replayability. On the technical side, the envelope was pushed pretty hard on this one. Next-gen consoles offer gobs of RAM and real grunt on the CPU front – making 4K finally possible – but I didn’t leave current-gen behind. The Nintendo Switch, for example, is well-served with a solid port that I’m incredibly proud of!”
